Welcome to the first season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley Pizza Wars. Eight entrants from four regions of the Valley will compete, bracket style, to be declared the winner of Best Pizza in The Valley.
Our judgement will be based upon several factors including style of specialty slice, sauce, crust, and overall impression.
We continue the first round traveling to the West Region pitting Lucky’s Pizzeria against Bartolo’s Pizza, both located in Palmyra.
At Lucky’s Pizzeria, we were able to try a couple specialty slices as well as a standard pepperoni slice and a plain cheese slice. They had a couple specials going for lunch today, two specialty slices and soda for $7.25 and two regular slices and soda for $6.50. The slices we chose were chicken bacon ranch and the works. We were both surprised by the taste of the housemade sauce and the quality of the pie. Our slices could have used more time in the oven. Lucky’s has a variety of specialty slices available on the menu.
At Bartolo’s Pizza we were limited as they do not sell their pizza by the slice. We ordered a medium Bartolo’s Special ($22.75) which comes with burger, sausage, onion, pepperoni, green pepper, and mushroom. Our first bite we could taste the sweet sauce. For one critic, it was too sweet. The combination of flavors truly blends well together. We could easily taste each individual topping in each bite. Due to a busy night for us, this pie was a takeout order.
The winner: This was a tough one and the critic crew is split over who our winner is here. After several hours of deliberation, we finally reached a verdict. In our first “upset,” we select Lucky’s Pizzeria as our winner from the West Region!
Lucky’s Pizzeria will go up against the winner in our next matchup, South Region Angelo’s Pizza in Iona vs. CC’s Pizza in Quentin.
