Lebanon City Council needed just 16 minutes to work through a short agenda at its July 24 monthly meeting.
Council approved a resolution authorizing the city to execute a reimbursement agreement with PennDOT for the upcoming repaving of Cumberland Street (Route 422 West) from 5th Avenue west to the city line at 16th Street, the fourth and final phase of the multi-year Route 72/422 resurfacing project for Walnut, Chestnut, 9th, and 10th streets through the city.
The city is required to pay contractors directly, and PennDOT will reimburse it for up to $2,443,319.
Melissa Quinones, the city’s director of administration, told council that Cumberland Street repaving from 5th Avenue east to the city line near 11th Avenue is set for 2026 as a separate project administered by PennDOT.
In other business:
- With the year 50% complete, Quinones reported that receipts through June 30 were at 69% of annual budget projections, and expenditures at 36%.
- Mayor Sherry Capello, who was not present, had previously informed council that she had appointed Fire Chief A.J. Sweitzer to the city’s Board of Health, filling the unexpired term of former chief Duane Trautman, which runs through Jan. 5, 2026.
- Capello had also informed council that she was reappointing Robert Hoffman to an additional five-year term on the city’s zoning hearing board. Council unanimously approved the appointment. Hoffman has served on the ZHB since June 1981.
- Council approved on final reading an ordinance setting a new fee schedule for the Garbage and Recycling Center at 8th and Walton streets.
Next council meetings
City Council’s next pre-council planning meeting will be on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 4:45 p.m. The next regular monthly council meeting will be on Monday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
Both meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Dixon Council Chambers on the first floor of Lebanon City Hall, 735 Cumberland St., Lebanon.
